can't please 'em all

Chronicling his trip to SXSW, this sour limey evidently fancies himself an indie-rock Simon Cowell — seems not to actually like music very much. (Or at least not as much as a good sandwich.)

”...it’s times like this when we were thankful to be able to escape to one of our finds of the event — Jimmy John’s Gourmet Sub Shop offers quite probably the tastiest sandwiches invented since bread was first sliced (a bargain at $4). Only our expanding waistline and declining pockets stopped us being tempted to head for another one during The Sharp Things’ (Friends, Fri, 8pm) shanty-like generic middle folk / jazz, ambiently fluctuating and a penetratingly void delivery that fails to captivate. Neither does the rock with a cello (the new avant garde surely?) of Tarantula A.D. (Buffalo Billiards, Fri, 8.15pm) just over the road.”

We can take our lumps, but to not appreciate us or Tarantula A.D. — who are a fantastic band, if you’ve never heard them — well, that just takes a whole heap o’ snark.

“Ambiently fluctuating. Penetratingly void” — say that with an English accent and try not to laugh. Go on, we dare ya!
