Thanks to callmeMICKEY (the “no bullshit MP3 blog”) for this nifty little write-up:
“The Sharp Things are a group of 10 (plus-minus a few) musicians that play “symphonic pop”. As one might imagine the term means they make pop rock music using everything from guitars and drums, to violins, violas and cellos. It sounds damn good if you ask me.. kinda like non-christmas music Manheim Steamroller plus lyrics. I know a few of you are scratching your head “Manheim Steamroller?”. Yes, don’t question it. Anyway the music is very beautiful in a tradition symphony sense, but it manipulated in a way that the music isn’t stale. Instead its very modern and lively. Each song setting out to craft a true tale and succeeding through the grace and beauty of a barrage of instruments.”
It came about as the result of callmeMICKEY’s posting of 228 MP3s from bands playing SXSW 2006 — including The Sharp Things. Out of all those bands, callmeMICKEY honored us with a spotlight. Nice. Check out the photo of TST performing at The Water Rats in London.
